Tikal’s national park covers an area of 57,000 hectares and was an ancient Maya civilization’s complex dating back to 600 BC. There are over 3,000 separate buildings dating from 600 BC to AD 900, including temples, residences, religious monuments decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions and tombs.

Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 meters and is by far the most frequently climbed volcano in Guatemala. The volcano is one of the easier volcanoes to climb and also gives you the unique opportunity to climb an active volcano! On clear days you may also be able to view the neighboring volcanoes of Agua, Fuego and Acatenango.

First you will visit the post-classic Mayan City of Iximche, in Tecpan, Chimaltenango. The site’s name derives from the Mayan name of the Ramon tree (Brosimum alicastrum), from the words ixim and che, meaning literally “maize tree” This was the first city invaded and conquered by the Spanish and it was here that they formed the first capital of Guatemala.
