Description

Description:
We start the tour with a visit to the Mayan city of Zaculeu, an important archaeological site of the highlands that was occupied by the Maya Mam people from 900 – 1500 AD, until being conquered in 1525. Then we head towards the mountain range Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes, where viewpoint Juan Diéguez Olaverri, at 3.100 meters above sea level, offers us a stunning view of the volcanic chain of Guatemala, the mountainous landscape and the city of Huehuetenango.

We finish our first the day with a cultural tour in the municipality of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, an authentic and traditional village where the Mayan Mam culture still prospers. We will visit its colorful market, the cemetery, the elaboration of their beautiful traditional textiles, an archeological site and the Balam museum

After a good night of sleep we start our second day with an adventurous hike to La Torre, one of the highest non-volcanic points in Central America, situated at 3,819 meters above sea level in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes mountain range. During the beautiful hike we will be able to observe an ample diversity of vegetation, animals and geological structures.
