Description

Description:
Laguna Lachuá National Park is a 14,500 hectare area of natural beauty, crystal clear waters and tropical rain-forest all set within a haven of peace and sheer tranquillity. Lachuá Lake is located in the middle of the national park. “Lachuá” is derived from the Q’eqchi’ words “la chu há” which means “the fetid water”. The park and adjacent buffer zone (known as “Eco-región Lachuá”) are noted for their high biodiversity. The national park is home to more than 300 species of birds, including parrots and keel-billed toucans. Jaguars still roam the park, and you can sometimes see their footprints. There is also a visitor’s centre on site where you can find cooking facilities, a campground, a shelter with bunk beds, showers, hiking trails, and canoes for rent. You can string a hammock or pitch your own tent for minimal cost.
