8km South-East of Cobán, lies the largest Q’eqchi Mayan village in San Juan Chamelco.
Our first stop here will be the prominent landmark of Church San Juan, said to be the first church built in Alta Verapaz, steeped in much history. Then we will go on to visit the “Cuervas del Rey Marcos” which features beautiful stalagmite and stalactite formations.
Some of these are very large; one has even been dubbed the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
From within the caves, the tour guide will explain the significance of these amazing and historical structures. After, there will be opportunities for self-exploration of the area and walking trails.
