    Horseback Riding

There are many means of transportation, but there is nothing quite like taking a horseback ride while enjoying the beauty of nature. Accompany us to the oldest stables of Antigua and enjoy a scenic and unforgettable ride through the mountains and trails of Antigua Guatemala.

Established in 1989 and founded by English riders, Ravenscroft Stables have several years of experience in breeding and high standard training with horses. The rides take around 2 to 3 hours and lead us through the spectacular area around the town of San Juan del Obispo. Personally guided by the owners, this ride is designed by an experienced rider who can control the horse in all its steps. If you are a less experienced rider, slower pace instruction and suitable horses are also available.

Boots or half-chaps and helmets are provided by us at no additional charge.

The walks usually leave San Juan at 9:00 am, but you are expected at the stable at 8:30 am to have time to test the boots and the other equipment.

Arrival in the afternoon is at 3:00 pm.

The first meters can be a bit difficult but not impossible, however there are horses that can transport you. You will places along the road where you can make a short break with a beautiful view, while the guide explains a little more about the volcano and its activity. The path is enclosed by vegetation and rocks, in which you can see layers of earth and volcanic sand, a phenomena called “Estera Volcanic”. After almost an hour of walking the vegetation ends and the soil changes to volcanic sand. Coming to the top you will be able to see the three surrounding volcanoes Volcano de Agua, Fuego and Acatenango, as well as the lagoons of Calderas and Amatitlán. • Cultural Walking Tour Antigua Guatemala

    $28.00

    Description:
Walk around in this wonderful city and learn about the Guatemalan history during colonial times. We start the tour with the Cathedral that was built in 1680 and with the fountain on the main square, where we explain the history of the city by means of surrounding examples of colonial architecture. Next we visit the San Francisco el Grande Church which was built in 1702. It is one of the best-preserved churches in Antigua and the resting place of the first saint in Central-America, Hermano Pedro. We then walk to the beautiful baroque church of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, one of Antigua’s most beautiful colonial style churches. This building was finished in 1767. On the left side of the church, there is a convent which is open to the public for a small fee. The tour ends in a jade factory, where you can learn about the different types of jade, the history of jade in Guatemala and understand how long it takes to make just one piece. To the ancient Maya, jade represented things like maize (corn), the wind, breath and the soul. They made jade into belts, nose decorations, mosaic masks, tooth inserts, beads and ear spools (a kind of earring that looks like a spool). They also worked jade into “celts” – a kind of axe-head. As for decoration, designs representing flowers were popular for jade jewelry. The jade is cut and polished in the factory by local Guatemalan workers who follow the carving traditions of their ancestors.

  • Surrounding Villages of Antigua

    $30.00$50.00

    Surrounding Villages of Antigua

We will pay a visit to three interesting villages (pueblos) around Antigua.

    San Juan del Obispo
Our first stop will be San Juan del Obispo, on the slopes of Volcano Agua. Here we will visit the temple, monastery and square of the first bishop of Guatemala, Francisco Marroquin. The village is famous for holding one of the first Catholic churches in Guatemala. Francisco Marroquin resided in San Juan del Obispo and still appears on our Q100 bill. San Juan del Obispo is a haven for artisans and is home to Guatemala’s best chocolatiers. For this reason, around Antigua, you will often see chocolate sold from San Juan del Obispo. We recommend supporting the local community during your visit to San Juan by purchasing the chocolate whilst there, which can also be considerably cheaper. Also, San Juan is known for a fruit called “nispero”, which comes in season in late October and November. In November an annual Festival del Nispero is held at the town’s main plaza to celebrate the start of the season. The festival lasts 2 days and is well worth a visit. Expect to see lively music, craftsman selling their wares from metals and woods, chocolates and Nispero wine.

    Ciudad Vieja
Seven kilometers southwest of Antigua along the Escuintla road is Ciudad Vieja (Old City), near the site of the first capital of the Captaincy General of Guatemala. Founded in 1527, it met its demise 14 years later when Volcano Agua let loose a flood of water that had been penned up in its crater. The water deluged the town with tons of rock and mud, leaving only the ruins of La Concepción church. We will unfold to you the history of this town, which was the second city founded by Spanish in Guatemala. We will also visit the organic macadamia farm where you will learn about the many medical functions of the macadamia nut.

    San Antonio Aguas Calientes
Last but not least, we visit the small picturesque town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes. This city was founded in 1528 and the majority of the population is Kaqchikel. One of Guatemala’s most well-known exports is traditional textiles, woven by Maya women, many who learn the craft from a very young age. As far as textiles go, the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes (translated as San Antonio Hot Springs) has the best reputation for quality textiles. We will visit the textile co-operative market here where you will be able to view the Mayan women using a back strap loom to weave traditional patterns. You will also have the opportunity to shop and buy any gifts from this market that you would like, which additionally supports the local Mayan women’s Co-Operative. The handicrafts market also has a small museum that has traditional dresses on display of most major regions in Guatemala, and is very much worth a visit. The tour ends in the jade factory, where you can learn about the different types of jade and the history of jade in Guatemala and understand how long it takes to make just one piece.

    (1) These services are NOT operated by ADRENALINA TOURS and subcontracted, and the quality of the services do not reflect entirely our quality norms … unfortunately there are no other tour operators operating this kind of shuttles. ANY CLAIM should be directed to the companies we subcontracted, or you should seriously think to buy from US a private service (and yes, we guarantee quality)

    (2) Most of the buses used are OLD and do not have a lot of space, your knees will suffer and the roads are in bad conditions …. Just being straight forwarded, shuttles from/to Coban and Lanquin are better than the chicken buses but much worse than a private (of course). We offer private services with comfort and flexibility as alternative.

    (3) Punctuality is NOT guaranteed, 08.00 am from LANQUIN can be delayed with one hour or more and this is the same case from PANA or ANTIGUA, anyway you always must be ready at time …

    (4) On the same shuttle bus there will be people paying more and people less .. why? Each agency sells tickets and only one or two tour operators are operating these shuttles, some agencies do not pay even the minimum salary to their employee’s AND others do … some agencies don’t care about you if something happens AND others do …
We try to pay ALL our people well, in a social responsible way, and this has a price.

    (5) You can NOT choose your seat and all seats are used, even the small extra one, s without back support, bad luck for you .. but the price is also related to filling up to the top with people, and no seat should be not occupied.

    (8) The driver is NOT a guide neither English/Spanish speaking on shuttle services. He will NOT be able to communicate easily if you do not speak Spanish.

    (9) Duration of the trip > It will always be more, never less: Between ANTIGUA and SCDLC count on 13 hours Between PANAJACHEL and SCDLC count on 12 hours Between XELA and SCDLC count on 10 hours

    (10) These services are combined and do mostly not 100 % fit together… private is better!

    (11) Exit Fee in MEXICO if you stayed longer than 7 days will be about 450 pesos, you will have to pay this and is NOT included in the ticket / At the Guatemalan border you will have to pay as well about 50 quetzals… no, we do not have ANYTHING to do with this and are NOT able to discuss with the migration officers

    (12) If you have to make extra costs because of roadblocks, and yes it happens a lot between San Cristobal de Las Casas and the border with Guatemala .. for all kind of reasons, we will NOT pay you back this expense. Mostly this is to go from one end (the beginning) to the other end of the road block where you will have to find another vehicle to bring you further .. sorry but we are not politically involved and do not have impact on local issues such as water supply, road construction , health issues …

    (13) Don’t mix up luggage with other people, or get lost having a cup of coffee and the bus is leaving. we will not send another bus or be able to find the new owner of your luggage.

Last but not least > Flat tires, road blocks, accidents, technical defects of the vehicle, earthquakes and human disasters… it all happens. We can NEVER be responsible for this and will NEVER be able to reimburse you or to pay extra costs you could have because of this.

The best activity you can do on a late afternoon in Antigua. This tour will take you to up to three mountain tops with incredible views, on your choice by ATVs, motorcycles, or scooters.

Our first stop is ¨Earth Lodge¨ or “Hobbitenango”, an eco-lodge located in the mountain village of El Hato. This Earth Lodge is famous for its resemblance to the under-hill houses of “Hobbits”, characters from the well-known Lord of the Rings books and films. After visiting this marvelous place we head down the mountain and stop at Antigua’s lookout point ¨El Cerro de la Cruz¨.  After seeing the aerial view of the colonial city of Antigua, we head to the middle of the valley to El Cerro de San Cristobal el Alto. Here we will find an organic local Garden-to-Table restaurant with an organic garden, avocado plantation, orchid greenhouse and the BEST VIEWS IN ANTIGUA. You can enjoy a coffee, snack, meal or beverage while watching the sunset over the mountains and see the lights of Antigua come to life.
