Pacaya volcano

Description:
Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 meters and is by far the most frequently climbed volcano in Guatemala. The volcano is one of the easier volcanoes to climb and also gives you the unique opportunity to climb an active volcano! On clear days you may also be able to view the neighboring volcanoes of Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. The calculated time to go up is 1:45 hours, but this may vary according to the needs of the group. The first meters can be a bit difficult but not impossible, however there are horses that can transport you. You will places along the road where you can make a short break with a beautiful view, while the guide explains a little more about the volcano and its activity. The path is enclosed by vegetation and rocks, in which you can see layers of earth and volcanic sand, a phenomena called “Estera Volcanic”. After almost an hour of walking the vegetation ends and the soil changes to volcanic sand. Coming to the top you will be able to see the three surrounding volcanoes Volcano de Agua, Fuego and Acatenango, as well as the lagoons of Calderas and Amatitlán. Two days / one-night Pacaya

The Pacaya Volcano is best and in fact easy to do as an overnight tour. Enjoy amazing sunset and sunrise without a bunch of other people around, only with Mother Nature talking to you through the noise and the lava … relax and enjoy a hot dinner and a good night of sleep, experience this as only a few do … stay awake if you want the whole night with a bottle of wine

Watch (if weather permitting) the surrounding volcanoes such as Acatenango and Fuego, maybe in an amazing show of fire …

Strongly recommended a 3-layer clothing system and a waterproof jacket … mostly you have clear weather in the morning and smog in the afternoon, be aware of the wind … it’s possible that it feels cold …

As this is an overnight trip a 60lt backpack gear, part of a tent, sleeping bag, 4 liters of water and food will be your deal … without the wine! If you know that you don’t want to carry your backpack, or you aren’t in good shape, you can also arrange a porter for your bag. In fact, you can even get a horse to ride on to the camp. Its 15 USD$/ horse one way so it’s worth making sure you keep some extra money on you just in case.
