REFUGIO DEL QUETZAL
You do not have to go far away from Quetzaltenango to visit one of the sanctuaries of Guatemala's national bird. This is a unique experience to admire the mysterious Quetzal living in its natural environment of a beautiful rainforest. The village is about 1 ½ hrs by private transport from Quetzaltenango. Binoculars are provided as well as breakfast.

Possible to combine with other destinations in the SAN MARCOS department such as LA CASTALIA, the ecological park in San Pedro or San marcos, the Mayan Palace, Tejutla or San Lorenzo. Ask for options and prices to make this a full day trip.
Leave very early from your hotel in Xela, we take a two hour drive to get to the hot Pacific Coast of Guatemala. Finishing on a dirt road to get to the farm that we are going to visit today.
A local guide who knows every kind of birds of the region takes us to the bird watching tour. First, you get up to a 16m tower of observation and then you walk through the beautiful tropical forest. Then we will have breakfast.
Around nine o’clock you start the plantations tour which includes Coffee, Rubber, Rambutan and Bananas. This comes with the explanation from a local guide expert in these kinds of products.
It is also possible if you want to take the adventure of the Canopy, there is a circuit of four ropes that you can try.
Finishing all the adventure you take a nice lunch with a very cold drink, and after this you will be transported back to Xela.

Would you like to go for a ride?
Saddle up for a horseback adventure in the Quetzaltenango valley! Feel the magic of freedom and infinite space, the intense blue of the sky, the vertigo of the ravines with carpets of crops on the bottom, the surprise of the locals. We will ride from Salcajá to San Andres Xecul and for the experienced riders we return to Salcaja over a different trail! This tour is even for beginners and people with very little knowledge of horseback riding.
