TOUR OF THE CITY (CITY TOUR)

This tour will visit the Historic Center, where you can
admire a series of buildings dating back to 1843; such as: city hall, the building of the Interior, the Theatre, the
Cathedral, the Building the Future, the Market and Calvary
Church. Each building has its own history, which we will
learn as we visit each.The tour ends at the Museum Café
where we will enjoy one of the world's richest coffees, Café
Graft..

During the tour we will visit Chivacave, a farm where the best cheese in Huehuetenango is prepared. One of the most curious things is that there have been prehistoric animal fossils dating back millions of years, found here. Some of these remains are in the museum, where you can admire Mastodon bones and molars, and several bones of Glyptodonts, as well as, other prehistoric animals. After Chivacave, we head to the capital of the Mames: Zaculeu. Zaculeu was a religious and administrative center for the elite of that time, built in a strategic location that served as a natural defense to protect tits citizens from enemies. In Zaculeu, we will learn about one of the largest Maya cities of the region, visit temples and explore a museum.

On this tour, we head to the town of Chiantla, a city founded in 1540 when the Dominicans began to assemble the country's population into villages. Opposite the central park is the sanctuary of the Virgin of Candelaria, or Our Lady of Silver. Many have made the pilgrimage to Chiantla due to the many miracles attributed to her, as well as to admire her colonial dress of silver. After visiting the city, we go to the top of the Cuchumatanes, with a height of 3,000 meters, where we experience one of the most stunning views in Guatemala. From this viewpoint, you can appreciate some of the volcanoes and the valley of Huehuetenango.

On this tour we head to Aguacatán, possibly one of the
most important municipals of Huehuetenango. The
abundance of water sources and good land has allowed
this city to make the valley a vegetable garden, among
the most famous are garlic and onion. On this tour we
will visit the market, central park, and the mouths of the
San Juan and Rio Blanco rivers. We will also have
opportunities to admire the typical attire of the
beautifully dressed women and cross garlic and onion
plantations to meet with people native to the area.
