BOSQUE DE HUITO & CHANCHOL

The tour starts with a visit to Bosque de Huito with a nice. Bosque de Huito is a private forest about 38 km from Huehuetenango, or 1 hour away. Huito is the local name of an endemic tree species. The huito tree has a great ornamental and economical value. The Huito tree is the only tree that grows between an altitude of 3000m and 4000m. It is property of Gonzalo Rodríguez Cano who stated the forest. After this, we will visit Canchol. This place is easily accessible all year round and the road is in good condition. This old ranch dates back to the late 17th century. Formerly the property was owned by Spaniards but now it is owned by a community who conserve the ranch. Here we will see the remains of the ranch with its historically important chapel.

This tour starts at 8:00am or in the afternoon in Huehuetenango. There, the church and the central park will be visited in the town center of the region of Huehuetenango. Then the church will be visited which is situated next to the central park. It is also possible to visit the daily market. After this, the tour will continue to the Sarchil River. This is a ride of about an hour in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The road is really adventurous and three rivers have to be crossed before the hot water springs are reached. The last five minutes have to be done by foot. The view is marvelous during the journey to the hot springs. This tour is only possible in the dry period and in the beginning of the rainy period because there will be too much water in the rivers to cross them during the rainy period. The major part of the road is a dirt road and many milpas can be seen during the ride and many farmers that are working on the land. The nature is amazing and the hot springs are really relaxing. After a bath the tour returns to Huehuetenango

Located in Aguacatan, 24km from Huehuetenango, the river is born at the base of the Chuchumatanes Mountains. It has extremely cold water and has several facilities for recreational activities. The tour starts with the transportation to the origin. It is very well accessible and the road is in good condition. It is a beautiful place with a pool constructed using the water of the river to fill it. This part is situated in the village of Aguacatan, which means place of the avocados.
