ACATENANGO
acatenango

The Acatenango hike is a little more difficult that some of our other trips.  However, to anyone up for a challenge, the views that this volcano offers are amazing to say the least. Specifically, Volcan Fuego, an active volcano located next to the Acatenango can be seen spitting and occasionally bursting with lava. During your hike on Acatenango you will walk through a beautiful pine forest, which provides some welcome shade.  You can also camp for one night at this volcano to have an impressive nighttime view of the Fuego Volcano.
This hike begins with a one and a half hour climb to the road of La Torre, from a height of 3400m to 3.828m. This is the highest non-volcanic point in Central America. From this point the view is precious. From La Torre the road goes down to La Ventosa, which

LA VENTOSA, LA TORRE & TODOS SANTOS
todos santos

This hike begins with a 1.5-hour climb to the road of La Torre, from 3400m to 3.828m in altitude, making it the highest non-volcanic point in all of Central America. Of course the view from here is more than spectacular.  From La Torre, we follow the road for approximately 2 hours down to La Ventosa. The road from La Ventosa to Todos Santos is part of the old Ruta Maya, the ancient connection between Chiapas in Mexico and Zaculeu (Huehuetenango).  The road leads down to Tuj Xolek, a holy site where local Mayans perform rituals and in the rainy season is host to a small lagoon. The hike is quite steep with many rocks, so it is quite difficult to go down which makes this hike only recommended to those with experience and who love a challenge.  From Tuj Xolek, the walk is another  1.5-hours to Todos Santos.  In total the hike will take about five hours.
