SANTA MARIA VOLCANO

santa maria volcano

The view from the top of the Santa Maria is absolutely mind blowing. The Santa Maria volcano is situated next to the small village of Llanos del Pinal.  You can see the volcanoes Tacana, Tajumulco, Siete Orejas, Chicabal, Lacandón, the volcanoes around Lake Atitlan as well as the volcanoes Acatenango, Fuego and Agua. The climb of Santa Maria can be done in half a day. The Santiaguito is the security valve of the bigger Santa Maria and thus in constant eruption (about every hour).  The top of the Santa Maria Volcano gives a perfect view down on the crater of the Santiaguito Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

PACAYA VOLCANO
pacaya

Pacaya is by far the most popular volcano to climb in Guatemala, and for good reason. The volcano is easy to climb and provides the opportunity to climb an active volcano.  On clear days you can see the volcanoes of Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. At the top of the Pacaya Volcano you will feel the heat, smell the sulfer, and are likely to actually see lava.
