Colonial Churches

This tour will take you not only to the famous colonial churches in the Quetzaltenango area, but includes a lot more! We will first go to San Andres Xécul. This yellow church is probably the most famous church in Central America. We also visit a place where you can see how the local materials are painted which are used for the tipical weavings. Next to a little chapel which is really interesting to see, we will visit a Maya altar and after that San Simon (Maximon a local Maya Saint). In San Cristóbal Totonicapán we will visit the church and the next door ´Monesterio´ as well as the place where indigenous women do their laundry, standing with their feet in the water while fish are swimming between them. We end our tour in Salcaja where we visit a local family who makes ´Caldo de frutas´ a local drink in Guatemala, Of course here is the opportunity to try one of these popular drinks! After that we will go to the weavery where you can see how they make the local textiles and end our tour in Quetzaltenango.

This tour will bring you to interesting indigenous villages in the Quetzaltenango area. We start with a visit to the cooperative glass factory in Cantel where you can see the manufacture of hand-blown glass. Afterwards you can bring a visit to the factory shop where you can see all their products. In Cantel we will also visit a really interesting church. We continue to Zunil where we visit an indigenous cemetery, the eaving cooperative Santa Ana, the colonial church and the San Simon. Afterwards it’s time to relax a little bit (1 ½ hour) in Fuentes Georginas (natural volcanic hotsprings) and have a relaxed warm bath surrounded by a beautiful primary cloud forest. We end our tour with a visit to Almolonga one of the most productive agricultural villages in Guatemala. In Almolonga you can see the very popular church and the real life of the local people, because here you will have a tour through these agricultural villages.
