Zaculue Archaelogical site Paleontological Site Chibacabe Chiantla

Post classic Mayan ruins, with temples, ball court and a small museum. In the department of Huehuetenango, the Wild West of Guatemala we will visit theruins in the Guatemala Highlands + remain and fossils of prehistoric fauna on the site of
Chivacave paleontological site. We will visit the Central Park and surrounding buildings in Huehuetenango. Then the tour
continues with a visit to the paleontological site where you will find the Mastodon and other important fossils from
Paleo-Indian period as well visiting the archaeological site Zacalue. The last town we will visit is Chiantla. This is a small lovely town with a graceful square and cathedral nearby Huehuetenango where you can visit the handicraft shops with leather and bronze products and the church’s silver Virgin Mary, which dates from the early 17 Century.

The tour starts with a visit to Bosque the Huito, where a nice walk will be made. Bosque the Huito is a private forest about 38 km from Huehuetenango or 1 hour away. Huito is the local name of an endemic tree species. The huito tree has a great
ornamental and economical value. The Huito tree is the only tree that grows between an altitude of 3.000m and 4.000m.
It is property of Gonzalo Rodríguez Cano who stated the forest. After that we will visit Canchol. This place is good accessible all year round and the road is in good condition. It is an old ranch which dates back to the late 17th century. Formerly, the property was owned by Spaniards but now it is owned by a community who conserve the ranch. The remains of the ranch with its historically important chapel can bee seen.

Located in Aguacatan, 24 km from Huehuetenango. The river is born at the base of the Chuchumatanes mountains. It has extremely cold water and has several facilities for recreational activities. The tour starts with the transportation to the origin. It is very well accessible and the road is in good condition. It is a beautiful place with a pool constructed with the water of the river in it. This origin is situated by the village Aguacatan, which means place of the avocados.
