Tajumulco Volcano

This is the highest volcano in Central America, but the hike to the top, which begins at a high altitude, is relatively easy. Good (but cold) camping in pine glades near the summit. We leave Quetzaltenango early in the morning and make our way by public bus to the town of San Marcos, near the Mexican border. After breakfast in the town (not included) of San Marcos we will board a second public bus to a place called Crucero Tajumulco . Approximately at 10:30 am, we will start our hike through corn fields and farm land. Lunch is taken after about 02 hrs. At about 4 pm we are reaching an altitude of 4000 mts and our camping spot .If normal weather conditions, we will go to the summit (200 meters) to see the sunset. Campfire, dinner and overnight in tents. At 05 am the next morning, and a little 45 minutes walk further. Sunrise will lightening the Cuchumatanes , from Tacana to Volcano Fuego. After breakfast, another 3 hours later down a small trail.
